ESL

ESL Program Overview

Students take a placement exam which includes:

  • In-house TOEFL
  • Written Exam
  • Oral Exam

Based on those scores, students are placed into Full program or Bridge Program ESL

Full program – two full-semester levels

  • ESLG 2000.01 – Intermediate

    Students take 18 hours of ESL instruction, using American culture studies as the content base.

  • ESLG 4000.01 – Upper Intermediate

In addition to the 5 ESL classes, students register for 1 credit of an undergraduate content class: ISTL 1000 - Introduction to International Studies

Intermediate Study Skills
Intermediate Pronunciation
Cultural Keywords

ESLG 4000 upper intermediate classes

Up. Int. Reading
Up. Int. Writing
Up. Int. Grammar
Up. Int. Pronunciation
Oral Presentation
Cultural Keywords
Upper Int. Study Skills

Bridge Level (advanced level) – two full-semester classes

These classes are 3 credit hours, and are taken at the same time as the student’s major coursework.  They are not taken in the same semester

  • ESLG 4000.06 – Research writing
  • ESLG 4050.01 – ESL Seminar
  • ESLG 4070.01- TOEFL and test-taking skills
