The Department of Legal Studies offers students excellent preparation for careers in the legal field and prepares them to be competitive in today’s marketplace. Students will acquire a broad understanding of the legal environment in which individuals, businesses, and the judiciary operate.
The Department of Legal Studies offers five programs that are approved by the American Bar Association: The B.A.in Legal Studies, the M.A. in Legal Studies, the undergraduate Paralegal Certificate, the graduate Paralegal Certificate, and the graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property.
Professors are working professionals who know first-hand the latest trends and expectations in legal professions and who take a personal interest in helping students succeed both in school and in their careers. Our instructors consist of Judges, practicing attorneys, U.S. attorneys, prosecuting attorneys, defense attorneys, solo practitioners, defense attorneys, and paralegals.

Assistant Professor Robin Jefferson Higgins is our Director of Legal Studies. She earned her BA in Economics and a MA in Spanish from the University of Missouri-Columbia, as well as a Juris Doctorate from St. Louis University. She was previously employed at Lashly & Baer, P.C., where she practiced School Law, Administrative Law, and Employment Law.
