Introduction of Barry Babcock
Success to Significance Dean's Lecture Series
February 20, 2007
Benjamin Ola. Akande
Dean, School of Business and Technology
Webster University

It is my great pleasure to introduce to you today a man of success and even greater compassion.

Most of you know of Barry from his professional accomplishments, including the co-founding of Charter Communications, which he helped build from the ground up before selling it to billionaire Paul Allen in 1999.

And, while Barry’s career achievements are nothing short of remarkable…I can tell you what truly distinguishes him as a leader is his exceptional humility and the hundreds of cable TV channels which he helped to spawn and that many Americans gratefully lap up each night.

Barry somehow always finds time to be present for others…to listen actively to their dilemmas...whether professional or personal. He is the ultimate volunteer who believes in sharing his treasures, his time and his talent. His concern shines through, providing much-needed comfort in even the most daunting of circumstances.

Barry’s unique ability to merge our increasingly high-tech world with a high-touch approach to interpersonal relationships is a model we can all be inspired by...and aspire to. Please join me in giving a warm Webster welcome to Barry Babcock.
