How Much is a Gold Medal Worth?
Snowboarding's greatest showman Shaun White didn't disappoint in Vancouver last week. He sailed stories over his competition and landed the hardest trick known in his sport to become the first person to win back-to-back gold medals in the half-pipe snowboarding competition. At age 23, he's already a legend in his sport and a millionaire businessman making the most of his wins.
"Snowboarding is one of the more popular Olympic sports," says Dr. Patrick Rishe, sports economist at Webster University's School of Business & Technology. "The more visible the sport the more opportunity there is for medalists to cash in after the games."

Jim Brasfield Named Journal Book Review Editor
The Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law has named SBT Professor and SBT Chair of Management Jim Brasfield its new book review editor. A leading journal in its field, and the primary source of communication across the many disciplines it serves, the JHPPL tapped Dr. Brasfield because of his extensive expertise on the initiation, formulation, and implementation of health policy.
"Jim Brasfield is a knowledge-leader in the area of health politics. This is a validation of his work in the field" says Dean Benjamin Akande.
"Jim has long been a leader, having chaired the Committee on Health Politics within the American Political Science Association from the early 1980s until this past year, when it evolved into the larger and more visible Organized Section on Health Politics," writes editor Michael S, Sparer in this month’s JHPPL. "Given his deep understanding of the world of health policy, his long-standing connection to JHPPL, and his easygoing Midwestern friendliness, we are thrilled that Jim agreed to take on this new task."
