DeWitt @WebsterU: Baseball Cardinals Will "Push" to Keep Pujols
The All-Star Game, an NL Championship, Gold Gloves and an MVP award fill the St. Louis Cardinals' sleigh of goodies this holiday season. But Bill DeWitt, III says he was hoping of adding just a bit more.
"We had a Cy Young box in the sleigh but had to Photoshop it out last week," DeWitt laughs. The Cardinals' president came to Webster's home campus to talk about the economics of baseball then take questions from the standing room only crowd. On everyone's mind was what the club will do to keep three time MVP Albert Pujols on the Redbirds' roster.
"We'll definitely push, scratch and probably get beyond our comfort level and try to make something work with him," DeWitt said. "I'm hoping that's good enough. He knows the iconic players of any generation typically stay with one team if you look at the history of baseball."
