Global Participant Fees and Estimated Costs:
Global Participants may choose either the Nonprofit or Corporate Track for their GIE internship.
Corporate Track: For the business-minded candidate, placements are available with GIE corporate partners based in the St. Louis area. This highly competitive program offers opportunities to experience U.S. business first-hand through a paid internship and requires academic training relevant to the internship and a minimum 550 TOEFL score. Placements are available in business, computer science, marketing, accounting, and other fields, with stipends of $1250. Administrative Fee: $1750 includes placement, orientation and insurance, and is payable in installments.
Nonprofit Track: For students interested in hands-on community outreach and development, the GIE Nonprofit Track partners with local charities and NGOs that impact the lives of thousands everyday. Students seeking to develop professional experience and explore career paths are placed in unpaid internships in operations, communications, development, community relations, etc. Nonprofit Track participants will gain valuable contacts, professional experience and perform resume-enhancing work. Administrative Fee: $500 includes placement, orientation and insurance.
Housing: J-1 student participants are placed with a host family for the duration of the internship. Fee: $500. F-1 student participants should make independent housing arrangements.
U.S. Participant Fees and Estimated Costs:
A non-refundable program fee of $1250 per admitted student is due by March 1, 2013. Webster University students receive a discount. There is no charge to apply.
Room/board, flight, insurance, local transportation, personal expenses and visa costs are paid out of pocket during spring and summer 2013, vary by program and are the responsibility of the participant. Housing is often, but not always, with a host family and is arranged only for the duration of the internship. Students are responsible for personal costs while in their host country. Expenses vary with amount of additional travel and lifestyle. Cost estimates for each program are provided below.
Austria Internship Experience
Internship location: Vienna, Austria
Foreign Language Requirement: 2 years of college-level German, intermediate proficiency

China Internship Experience
Internship locations: Shanghai or Beijing, China
Foreign Language Requirement: 2 years of college-level Mandarin, intermediate proficiency
Room/board, flight, local transportation, personal expenses: +/- $3000
Germany Internship Experience
Internship locations: Various locations in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany
Foreign Language Requirement: 2 years of college-level German, intermediate proficiency
Room/board, flight, local transportation, personal expenses: +/- $2500
Japan Internship Experience
Internship locations: Osaka or Tokyo, Japan
Foreign Language Requirement: 2 years of college-level Japanese, intermediate proficiency
Room/board, flight, local transportation, personal expenses: +/- $3500
Mexico Internship Experience
Internship location: Guadalajara, Mexico
Foreign Language Requirement: 2 years of college-level Spanish, intermediate proficiency
Room/board, flight, local transportation, personal expenses: +/- $2500
The Netherlands Internship Experience
Internship locations: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, or Leiden, the Netherlands
Foreign Language Requirement: None
Room/board, flight, local transportation, personal expenses: +/- $3500
United Kingdom Internship Experience
Internship locations: London, Redditch, or Egham, England
Room/board, flight, local transportation, personal expenses: +/- $6000
*Students participating in the UK Internship Experience receive a stipend as mandated by the British government.
For all programs, all visa fees and items not listed above are the responsibility of the participant. These numbers reflect spending as dictated by alumni.
