    Outgoing Email Information & Settings

    Message Size

    Each email message you send has a maximum size of 30MB (megabytes). This includes the message body and all attachments. While we recommend that messages are MUCH smaller than 30MB, messages larger than 30MB will be rejected by the email server and not delivered.

    Number of Recipients

    Each email message you send may have a maximum of 30 recipients. Email messages with more than 30 recipients will be rejected by the server and not delivered to any recipients.

    Outgoing Server Name

    The outgoing email server for Webster University email is: smtp.webster.edu

    Outgoing Server Security Settings

    Webster's email servers require the use of security (authentication and encryption) on the outgoing email server.

    Password Authentication

    Outgoing server authentication allows the email server to identify you as someone who is authorized to send email via the outbound email server.

    Encryption

    Email, in general, is not secure. Turning on SSL or TLS encryption for your outbound email server is an easy way to make your email communications more secure.

    Turning on Password Authentication in Outlook 2007

    1. Open Outlook.
    2. Click on Tools.
    3. Go to Account Settings.
    4. Click on your Webster account and click Change.
    5. Click More Settings.
    6. Click on the Outgoing Server tab.
    7. Click the checkbox next to My Outgoing Server Requires Authentication.
    8. Click the radio button next to Use the same settings as my incoming mail server.
    9. Click OK.
    10. Click Next.
    11. Click Finish.

    Turning on Encryption in Outlook 2007

    1. Open Outlook.
    2. Click on Tools.
    3. Go to Account Settings.
    4. Click on your Webster account and click Change.
    5. Click More Settings.
    6. Click on the Advanced tab.
    7. Under the section for Incoming Mail server you will see Use the following type of encrypted connection. Click the drop-down box and choose TLS.
    8. Under the section for Outgoing Mail Server you will see Use the following type of encrypted connection. Click the drop-down box and choose TLS.

    Turning on Password Authentication in Outlook 2003/XP

    1. Open Outlook.
    2. Click on Tools.
    3. Go to Email Accounts.
    4. Click the radio button next to View or change existing email accounts.
    5. Click Next.
    6. Click on your Webster email account.
    7. Click the Change button on the right.
    8. Click on More Settings.
    9. Click the Outgoing Server tab.
    10. Click the radio button next to My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
    11. Click the radio button next to Use the same settings as my incoming mail server.
    12. Click OK.
    13. Click Finish.

    Turning on Encryption in Outlook 2003/XP

    1. Open Outlook.
    2. Click on Tools.
    3. Go to Email Accounts.
    4. Click the radio button next to View or change existing email accounts.
    5. Click Next.
    6. Click on your Webster email account.
    7. Click the Change button on the right.
    8. Click More Settings.
    9. Click on the Advanced tab.
    10. Click the option This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) under both the Outgoing Server and Incoming Server sections.

    Turning on Password Authentication in Mac Mail

    1. Open Mail.
    2. From the Mail menu, choose Preferences.
    3. Click the Accounts icon.
    4. Click on your Webster account.
    5. Near the bottom under Outgoing Mail Server, click Server Settings.
    6. Click the arrow box on the Authentication pop-up list and choose Password.
    7. In the User Name field, type in your Connections username.
    8. In the Password field, type your Connections password.
    9. Click the OK button.
    10. Close the Accounts window.
    11. Click the Save button.

    Turning on Encryption in Mac Mail

    1. Open Mail.
    2. Click on Preferences.
    3. Click on Accounts icon.
    4. Click on the Advanced tab.
    5. Near the bottom, check the box next to SSL.
    6. Click OK.
    7. Close the Accounts Window.
    8. Click the Save button.
