Scholars Learning Community
We invite you to take part in a dynamic Learning Community as part of your first-year experience. The Scholars Learning Community appeals to students who seek an advanced application of their academic and social interests. Students selected for this learning community will have higher performance expectations in the classroom and in extracurricular commitments. This community will challenge a student’s intellectual ability to reason and argue while attaining a liberal arts education.
Students in the Scholars LC will learn:
• how to apply connections of ideas from interdisciplinary studies
• how to develop interpersonal skills through inside and outside the classroom collaboration
• how to build critical thinking and reflective thinking skills
Scholars LC Courses:
Students in each learning community must take all of the courses in a cohort.
FRSH 1200 The Blank Slate
This Great Thinkers Seminar section isn’t about thinking outside the box. It’s about building a new box. Not many students in their first semester of college have an opportunity to be a part of designing and developing a course. You won’t find a better way to take ownership of your education. One past class decided to study America’s moral divide. Another opted to learn about leadership and activism. And one group even decided to spend the semester studying themselves, exploring the Millennial Generation and how it will impact the world. What will you decide to build?
FRSH 2500 Honors Seminar
An interdisciplinary honors seminar designed for freshmen. The course addresses significant issues and topics using a combination of great books and contemporary writings.
FRSH 2008 The Arts at Webster University
Webster faculty and students are involved in all the arts--theater, music, dance, film, and the visual arts. There are rich opportunities to see their work and get to know all the art forms. By attending their performances and programs, students will both learn about the arts themselves and learn how to utilize the University as an intellectual and cultural resource.
