    Webster University Alumnus Nominated Commander of U.S. Forces in Iraq

    Webster University alumnus and Army Lt. Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III is nominated to lead U.S. forces in Iraq, according to a May 18 Department of Defense (DOD) press release. Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced that President Obama put forth the nomination for Austin's "appointment to the rank of general and assignment as commanding general, U. S. Forces-Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Austin is currently serving as director of The Joint Staff in Washington, D.C." Lieutenant General Austin is a 1989 graduate from Webster University's Kansas City campus with a Master of Arts degree in Management.
