Webster Alumnus Butz Nominated for Tony
Norbert Leo Butz, a St. Louis native and 1990 graduate of Webster University’s Conservatory of Theatre Arts in the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts, has has been nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his role in "Catch Me If You Can." Butz won the Tony Award in 2005 for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for his role in the Broadway hit, “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.” He has been seen in other Broadway productions such as “Wicked,” “Thou Shalt Not,” “Rent” and “Last Five Years.”
Butz has performed in a number of Off-Broadway and regional shows including the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis. Throughout his career Butz has earned television, film and recording credits, including several independent films and a guest role on NBC’s “Law & Order.”
Butz graduated from Bishop DuBourg High School and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Webster University, both in St. Louis, Missouri. This is Butz’s third Tony nomination. He was also nominated in 2002 as Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance in “Thou Shalt Not.”
