Canvassed Reflections-the Senior Bachelor of Fine Arts Dance Concert at Webster University

The Webster University Theatre and Dance Department presents “Canvassed Reflections,” the Senior Bachelor of Fine Arts Dance Concert, February 4-5, 7:30 p.m. and February 6, at 2 p.m. The Concert will be in Webster University's Stage III (lower level of Webster Hall), 470 E. Lockwood Ave. Tickets are free, but donations are appreciated. “Canvassed Reflections” features choreography by Leslie Dannewitz, Mallory Gittemeier, Shannon Perea and Ciara Tunstall. Please call 968-7128 or email dance@webster.edu.

BFA candidate Leslie Dannewitz’s choreography is a blend of movement qualities that reflect lightness, bouncing, swinging and rhythmical themes  She has composed her own piano accompaniment as well as utilizes props, rhythm tap, and a vocal text from her great-uncle’s diary. Dannewitz’s choreography will leave the audience fully entertained.

Mallory Gittemeier is a BFA candidate who is known to have an awkward elegance about her choreography. Her inspiration from historical and cultural themes such as King Henry IV and East Indian will draw the audience into her movement style. The quirky and percussive, broad yet detailed movements will leave you wanting more.

Shannon Perea a BA candidate uses a post modern aesthetic that explores a variety of qualities from percussive to sustained movements. Her emotional and expressive choreography reflects the internal struggles in life. Perea’s captivating kinetics will invite the audience to appreciate the strong use of timing, levels, and shapes.

BFA candidate Ciara Tunstall’s inspirations lead her to choreograph about the strength and troubles of women in feminist situations. With the use of music composed by Lauryn Hill, Tunstall’s musicality is powerful and the direct yet silky movements are emotionally driven by the environment around her. The intensity and groundedness of her choreography will entangle you into her world.
