Webster University Dance Department Receives Grant
The Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation recently awarded the Webster University Dance Department a grant for their ongoing commitment to their "Dance Demo" project. The Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation fosters and promotes the performing arts in the St. Louis metropolitan area.
Dance Demo consists of 8-10 Webster University dance students or "fellows" who are responsible for co-coordinating, co-producing, and performing free in-school dance workshops for participating high-need schools throughout St. Louis. Dance Demo fellows serve as mentors and educators to underserved youth, introducing them to various styles of dance while addressing career and educational opportunities within the arts. Directed by the University's head of Dance, Beckah Voigt and managed by Dance faculty member Iyun Harrison, Dance Demo fosters a deeper interest in and understanding of dance, removes barriers and builds access to dance, exposes underserved students to higher education opportunities and creates authentic performance and outreach opportunities for Webster dance students.
Funding from the Fox Performing Arts Foundation will be used to enhance educational materials provided to participating schools, as well as support workshops and final performances.
