Jorge Vera: urbanismo--A Photography Exhibit at Webster University’s May Gallery
What/Who:
Webster University presents the work of photographer Jorge Vera: urbanismo. Jorge Vera is a photographer and visual artist based in Lima, Peru. His current series, "urbanismo" (2008-2010), echoes early work from his first solo show in St. Louis, "Seldom Seen" (1989), exploring iconic images of the Midwest, where he lived from 1983 to 1992. During this period Vera started capturing images of mostly empty suburbia and urban spaces and landscapes–work that reflects his experience of isolation and alienation as a young self-exiled immigrant in the United States.
