Webster University Establishes 'Proud to Serve Scholarship for Military Dependents' on Webster Groves Home Campus

Building on its decades-long record of serving military students, Webster University has established the Proud to Serve Scholarship for Military Dependents. The scholarship is available to qualified full-time freshmen and new transfer students at the University’s home campus in Webster Groves, Mo., who are dependents of active U.S. Armed Forces military personnel and veterans. Webster's launch of the Proud to Serve scholarship coincides with the nation's first official parade welcoming back Iraq war veterans, held yesterday in St. Louis.

The Proud to Serve scholarship offers an annual award of up to $3,000. To be eligible, students must meet all requirements for admission for first-time, full-time undergraduate freshmen or new transfers, with a GPA of 2.5/4.0. The Proud to Serve scholarship is offered in addition to any transferred GI Bill higher education benefit and in addition to any other scholarships and awards.

Since 1974, Webster University has served military students by providing high-quality, cost-effective graduate programs at military installations and metropolitan locations throughout the country. Today, Webster offers degree programs at more than 40 military installations and online, making the university one of the largest providers of graduate military education in the United States.

"We are so proud of our longstanding affiliation with the military and we want to welcome home the new wave of veterans by extending our scholarship offerings to their dependents," said Webster President Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble. "The new Proud to Serve scholarship allows us to provide Webster’s highest level of financial assistance to qualified military dependents to support their continued success."

Julian Schuster, Webster's provost and senior vice president, added, "The scholarship exemplifies our unwavering commitment to do all that we can to enrich lives and create opportunities for purposeful careers for those who serve in the military and now for their families as well."

Recognized nationally for its service to the military, Webster University is ranked a "Top School" for military students by Military Advanced Education magazine and as a "Military Friendly School" by G.I. Jobs magazine. Webster also is a member of Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges and is a Yellow Ribbon school offering maximum benefits under the VA’s program. The University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. With its home campus in St. Louis, Webster University is the only Tier 1, private, non-profit U.S.-based university providing a network of international residential campuses. Founded in 1915, Webster University's campus network today includes metropolitan, military and corporate locations around the world, as well as traditional residential campuses in Asia, Europe and North America. The university is committed to delivering high-quality learning experiences that transform students for global citizenship and individual excellence.
