Samuel Barber Centenary Tribute Honoring Samuel Barber's 100th Birthday at Webster University. In the pantheon of American musicians, Samuel Barber (1910-1981) commands a prominent niche. Along with the works of Aaron Copland and
George Gershwin, his are the most often played. No one has ever denied Barber's polished style, or his integrity, nor have they resented his honesty in admitting he wanted to reach a large musical audience. In this he was more than successful.
