    Films by Webster Students, Faculty and Alumni Selected for Screening at Summer St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase

    The films of dozens of Webster University students, faculty and alumni were selected to be screened this week as part of the 10th Annual Stella Artois St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase at the Tivoli Theatre, 6350 Delmar  Blvd. in St. Louis. The event is presented by Cinema St. Louis, an organization dedicated to the promotion of local filmmaking through the fall St. Louis International Film Festival, summer Filmmakers Showcase and various other screenings, programs and educational events occurring throughout each year. Filmmakers from Webster University’s School of Communications film production program have been regularly featured at these events for years.

    The following is a listing of this year’s Webster University participants:

    ALUMNI:

    “Abound" directed by Jason Britton (Dramatic short-4 min.)
    Tuesday, July 20 at 9:15 p.m., Theatre 1
    A young man no longer needs his wheelchair but lacks confidence, prompting his girlfriend to urge him to play basketball with her.

    "Engine" directed by Sarah Worner (Dramatic short-14 min.)
    Tuesday, July 20 at 9:15 p.m., Theatre 1
    Jo finds herself the talk of the town as speculation mounts over what could have happened to her dead brother.

    First Hit" directed by Josh Simpson (Dramatic short-9 min.)
    A rebellious teenager learns that father knows best.

    "Horizons" directed by Zlatko Cosic (Experimental short-6 min.)

    This visual puzzle combines a New Mexico drive and Rodney Waschka's music composition "Horizon."

    A shy young man pines after the girl of his dreams and faces public embarrassment when he makes his feelings known.

    "Smeared Colors" directed by Kaitlyn Paradis (Dramatic short- 10 min.)

    A visit by a granddaughter and friend makes grandma reminisce about better times with her ailing husband.

    Two German soldiers fight for their lives against the invading American forces, but they soon realize something more sinister is afoot.

    A mysterious mime seeks to bring solace to a troubled child.

    "Capitol of the Multiverse" directed by Van McElwee (Experimental short-9min.)

    A neoclassical form breathes and mutates, overlooking a shifting horizon.

    "Gateway Guardians" directed by Rebecca Ormond (Documentary feature-56 min.)
    Sunday, July 18 at Noon, Theatre 3
    A volunteer organization called the Gateway Guardians feeds daily, rescues and adopts hundreds of animals each year off the streets of East St. Louis, Ill. The film captures heartbreaking footage of the abandoned pets, volunteers on the streets, vet visits and foster homes.

    "The Tao of Blake" directed by Kathy Corley (Documentary short-10 min.)
    Sunday, July 18 at 4:30 p.m., Theatre 3
    A preview of the upcoming documentary on the late Blake Travis, a beloved St. Louis musician and storyteller.
