Missouri ESOL Certification in Teaching

Webster University's Missouri ESOL Teaching Certification program through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is designed for PreK-12 teachers faced with non-English speakers in regular, bilingual or English Language Learner (ELL) U.S. classrooms. Those who complete the ESOL Certification program will be well prepared to instruct students in a U.S. classroom the English language and academic skills critical for future success in America.

Prerequisites

A valid Missouri permanent or professional certificate of license to teach (participants in the ESOL program at Webster may be working toward the initial certification, but will not receive their ESOL certification until the basic one is awarded) and the following courses (which may be undergraduate credit):

  1. SPED 5860 - Psychology and/or Education of the Exceptional Student
  2. COMM 5920 – Teaching Reading in Content Fields
