ENMG 6110: Management of Air Quality

Course Description

This class provides an overview of management of air quality. Topics will include the atmosphere, origin of air pollution; types and sources of air pollution; health and welfare effects of air pollution; meteorology and air dispersion; control techniques; and regulatory environment. s.

Course Outcomes

Students will learn basic concepts of air quality management: why is management necessary, what affects air quality, some means available for managing air quality, such as air pollution control. Students will understand the basic regulatory framework of federal, state and local air quality management, building on knowledge from ENMG 5000.

Prerequisites

It is assumed the student has adequate writing and analytical skills. Also, as for all Internet courses, the student must be disciplined and self-motivated. Completion of all required courses for the M.S. in Environmental Management.

Course Activities

The course will be conducted entirely online. Students are expected to participate in all course activities as assigned by the instructor. Course activities may include extensive reading, papers/defense, presentations, discussions, article reviews, exams, and/or group projects.

Disturbances:
Since every student is entitled to full participation in class without interruption, disruption of class by inconsiderate behavior is not acceptable. Students are expected to treat the instructor and other students with dignity and respect, especially in cases where a diversity of opinion arises. Students who engage in disruptive behavior are subject to disciplinary action, including removal from the course.

Student Assignments Retained:
From time to time, the department will retain student assignments or projects for the purpose of academic assessment. In every case, should the assignment or project be shared outside the academic Department, the student's name and all identifying information about that student will be redacted from the assignment or project.
