The Web Site of Bill Barrett

Welcome! This web site emphasizes my work in photography and work with images in general, but has also grown to include many other topics that I consider important to a life well-lived.

I'm a professor in the Department of Electronic and Photographic Media, in the School of Communications, here at Webster University in St. Louis. I moved here in Fall 1994, from New York City. I'm also currently serving as department chair, a member of the Committee to Review Faculty, and director of the May Gallery.

You can look at the courses I teach, and see some of the resources I find useful in class and in general. It's been said that since I don't limit my reserve reading to things on a library shelf, you will find the world on reserve here through the Internet. There are also some of my own publications, and some of my recent photographic work. My current research centers on the origins and development of the "idea of the camera," so expect to see some interesting pages on that topic before long.
