1870 UNITED STATES FEDERAL CENSUS

A huge thanks is due Sally Sharamitaro and Kay Placke Richard who undertook this difficult task of FINDING and transcribing this census for our use. I say a difficulty in "finding" since none of this census does lists people by street address, they had none, but only by area. Since the area being canvassed was considerably larger than even our current larger Dogtown area, Sally and Kay were forced to do a great deal of detective work and make hard decisions about who actually lived in the Dogtown area and who did. It was a very difficult task! In addition to using the census data they made extensive use of St. Louis City Directories, increasing the work load tremendously

This data is list only by last name since the addresses when at all avaialble are not of the sort that most people would use to search specific persons. The last name search is the most useful for this census.
