CURRENT BUSINESS

Century Home Committee- Bill and Gerry Miller, chairs of the Century Home Committee gave the following report to the members; We have sold 104 Century Home Plaques. Many have been put on display in the front of their homes. The 6400 block of Lloyd Avenue and the 6500 block of Nashville both have 6 or 7 plaques up. The profit to the DHS amounts to $1047.50.

The tile company has raised the cost of the plaques to $55.00, so we have raised our price to $65.00. The tile company will have to move their operation because their building has been sold and will be demolished. They want our business and will continue their operation at another location.

Street Musician’s Festival– John introduced our three special guests who spoke about their activities since the last meeting in regard to the Dogtown Street Musician’s Festival. Crystal Brown’s specialty is piano and voice, a graduate of Webster University, Crystal teaches piano at her home. She has been working to find two other judges, with some artists and also with a group of students who volunteered to deliver festival flyers.

Travis Wood’s specialty is connecting local music and musicians via his internet blog. Travis created a Dogtown Street Musician’s Festival blog.

Jerome Wilson’s specialty is photography, and YouTube videography. Jerome is working on the fliers, which will be green on white. He also created several music videos of the street musicians chosen to play at the Festival and posted them on YouTube to help publicize the Festival.

John presented two festival reports, 1) A projected budget and 2) A work plan for Festival day that outlined everything that has been arranged for the Festival on Saturday, September 11th.

The Festival Fiscal Output Projections Report lists known expenses which include; Permit and Security fees, Trophies and Plaques, Printing of fliers and programs, Tee shirts, ballot boxes and Miscellaneous items totaling $3600.00. The Income projections include; Donations, Tee shirts sold and Festival games, totaling $3600.00.

The expenses did not include the $700.00 that it would cost to have a flyer delivered to 5000 homes in Dogtown.

The Work Plan for Festival Day” included the festival preparations, ie, times for the volunteers, and what needs to be done, ie., 7:00am set up tents, signs on benches, 10:30 am assignment of musicians to benches and ballot boxes to the musicians, etc.

The time slot 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm states: set up of the stage with sound equipment, followed by plans for the ceremony itself. First, the National Anthem, then a moment of silence for the 9-11 tragedy. After that will be a dedication of the Festival to the memory of Mrs. Lucille Liston, with a plaque given to her family. Lastly will be the trophies for the musicians who win; “the Best of Show”, “the Best Original Song” and “the People’s Choice” awards.

At 7:00 pm the clean-up crew do their work, while the stage will stay open to any musicians who wish to play for the crowds.

And also in the case of inclement weather, there is a back-up plan to move the festival musicians indoors into Seamus, Felix’s, LaGra, Latitude 26’s and Nora’s.

Soldier’s Memorial Project – Bob and John will contact Mary Brong, Dogtown landscaper, for a landscape drawing of the area around the gazebo, required by the City of St. Louis for approval of our Soldier’s Memorial Project. Alderman Bill Waterhouse and John Corbett will follow up on the approval process.
