Sunday was more than just St. Patrick's Day. St. Louis Mayor Vincent C. Schoemehl Jr. proclaimed it "Dogtown Day" as well. Bob Corbett was officially installed as honorary town mayor in a ceremony held during the St. Pat's Day celebration at St. James the Greater Church. The retired, 68-year resident of the Dogtown area of south St. Louis said he doesn't know what he did to earn the honor. "I guess it was just longevity and notoriety," he said. Known citywide for his ability on the soccer field, in 1944 Corbett was the first soccer MVP selected in the state. He was awarded the CYC Silver Boot award in 1969 for 25 years of service to soccer and installed in the soccer hall of fame in 1975. Corbett presided as the sun set over Dogtown, a portion of which is pictured below. He said his official duties consisted of: being a good neighbor.
