MORNING RAIN

By: Julie Duane

Oh why should I get up today

The slow autumnal rain

Sings softly sadly softly sad

Against my window pane

The dead leaves from the maple tree

Fall gently one by one

And sullen clouds hang in the sky

Unblessed by any sun

Oh why should I get up today –

Or any other day

Or any other night or noon

Since you are gone away
