Congo Boys Club Takes State Title

The Congo Boys Club won the Khoury League Missouri Class A Championship in the Midget Division on Sunday, August 4 at ABC Park by defeating the St. Ann Pirates 6 to 3. Congo Pitcher John Leigh threw a one-hitter at the Pirates but received assistance from relief pitcher Ron Kitchen in obtaining the last out of the game. The Congo Boys from Memorial Congregational Church at Victoria and Graham will take 17 wins and 2 losses to Cahokia, Illinois on August 17 to meet the Illinois Champion.

Congo Boys' Club Wins Two Games

The Congo Boys' Club from Memorial Congregatianal Church, Missouri Class A Khoury League champions in the midget division, closed out the season over the weekend by defeating the Illinois champions from Chatham, Ill., at Cahokia. The Cargo team won both §aturday and Sunday, 3-0 and 8-4.

John Leigh p i t c h e d both games, allowed a total of nine hits and struck out 24. He ended the season with a 19-2 record, which was also the team mark for the year.

Members of the team in acklition to John Leigh are Jim Giannini, Scott Adams, Jim Price, Ron Jones, Tykie Manettas, Dan Barton, Mike Lowry, Dan Dudes, Chuck Verweyst, Perry Newman and Dennis Miller. The manager is Don Jones, the coaches are Grante Price, Bob Lowry and Frank Leigh.
