U.N.: PEACEKEEPERS LIKELY TO REMAIN
PORT-AU-PRINCE -- The U.N. peacekeeping mission in Haiti should be prepared to
stay in the troubled country for another 10 years, U.N. envoy to Haiti Juan
Gabriel Valdés said Tuesday.
In June, the U.N. Security Council extended the year-old mission's mandate for
another eight months. The 7,600-member peacekeeping force has been intensifying
efforts to root out politically aligned gangs.
