Haitian Spicy Slaw (Piclise)
There's very little oil in this; it's there mostly to give the salad a nice sheen. This is the traditional accompaniment to the Pork Griot (recipe given). If you eat it by itself it tastes a little sa

1/2 head green cabbage, finely shredded

1 carrot, coarsely grated

2 large scotch bonnet peppers, stemmed and minced

1 tablespoon salt

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

1/4 cup distilled white vinegar

Mix all ingredients well in a nonreactive container. Makes 6 cups.

Per (1/2-cup) serving: 22 calories, 50 percent calories from fat, 1 gram total fat, .17 gram saturated fat, no cholesterol, 3 grams carbohydrates, 1 gram total fiber, 2 grams total sugars, 2 grams net carbs, .62 gram protein, 592 milligrams sodium.
