26143: Settle (info) death of Jeanne Lang (fwd)
From: jackie settle <firstname.lastname@example.org>
I would like to pass on information about a dear lady and friend who spent a
great deal of time working in and for Haiti. This is part of an email I
It is with great sorrow that I must announce the passing of Jeanne Morton Lang.
After a four-and-half year battle with cancer, she joined God on August 16,
2005. She was an amazing person whose life touched countless other lives.
Jeanne Morton, daughter of Charles E. and Helen Morton, was born in
Missouri on July 30, 1944.
Jeanne's passion for helping people throughout the world, and especially
children, was growing. She was active in adoption groups and was involved with
a number of orphanages. In 1989, Jeanne and a group of other adoptive mothers
returned with their Vietnamese children to Vietnam. Following the war, this was
the first trip taken back into Vietnam by a non-governmental group.
That trip was another experience that shaped Jeanne's dedication to doing
everything she could for those in need. Upon her return, she joined forces with
Barb Larson to create a non-profit organization called Medic of Illinois. For
20 years, Medic collected medical supplies from hospitals and hospices in the
Chicago area, in order to send them to countries where those supplies were
otherwise too difficult or too expensive to distribute effectively. While there
are no official records, one year Jeanne shipped supplies to 33 different
Through Medic, Jeanne also started a child sponsorship program for children in
Vietnam. In fact, just this year her first sponsored child graduated from
Medic was also where Jeanne became aware of the needs that exist in the country
of Haiti. Starting in 1992, Jeanne took regular trips to Haiti in order to
deliver medical supplies and hold clinics in outlying areas. Her relationships
with her friends from Haiti remained something particularly special to Jeanne
for the rest of her life. In honor of the work and her love for the Haitian
people in 2005 a new clinic in Cape Haitian was name The Jeanne Lang Clinic.
To honor Jeanne's life and work, there will not be a typical memorial service.
It was her request that we have a celebration, honoring her and all of those
who worked with her to make a positive difference in the world. This
celebration will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church 130 N. West Street,
Wheaton, Il 60187 (www.trinitywheaton.org) at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September
10, 2005. A light lunch reception will be served after the memorial service.
It was also her request that guests not send flowers, but to have donations
made instead, in order to continue her work. If you,d like to send a donation
in her honor, please send it to:
