Query, from LeGrace; One would like to hear more about the claim that
Haitian Kreyol was "basically a language of the pirates of the 16eme/17eme
century."  You linguistic experts om this list may be able to clarify how a
contact pidgin, of the sorts spoken by maritime people of any time and place
may differ from the Caribbean pirates' creole?
