28001: Koughan (comment) Re: 27988: Morse (comment) International Press Provocateur (fwd)

From: FKoughan@aol.com

The democratically-elected president of a country, already overthrown in a
coup and restored to power by the US, is again forced into exile. Elections
are held. The exiled president's protege wins. The exiled president publicly

declares his desire to return home - a potentially monumental event,
regardless of how one feels about the former president.

Is Richard Morse suggesting that there is no story here? That Aristide's
statements are unworthy of being covered, and reporters who do so are being
duped? Really? If Baby Doc announced a serious desire to return, would that
be
newsworthy? Or would a "grown up" press corp refuse to cover it?

Richard may well be correct that Aristide is trying to "paint Preval into a
corner." But that's news, isn't it? Why shoot the messengers?
