#773: HAITI AND ITS DIASPORA: Villain comments

From: Marc Villain <mvillain@mail.mia.bellsouth.net>

Although over 6,000 mostly blacks skilled laborers migrated to Haiti in
1824, less than 3 years later, in 1827, thousands of them returned home
to the States, citing their "disapointment with the state of the new
nation, uncomfortable with the climate, unable to speak the language,
and unprepared for rural life there".
