# 1594: The Gourde's Current Weakness (fwd)

From: Max Blanchet <MaxBlanchet@worldnet.att.net>

Today, according to the Banque de la République

d'Haïti, it takes on average 18.32 Gourdes to

purchase one US dollar. This represents, according

to the same source, a depreciation of 9.4% over a

period of one year.

Part of the answer may be related to the fact that the

"dyaspo" are simply not visiting the country in numbers

we are accustomed to due to the bad press it is getting

relating to violence, etc. So surmised Haiti en Marche,

anyway.

Anyone on the list willing to comment on the relatively

large depreciation of the Gourde relative to the dollar?
