The US has spent a lot of time and money and energy attending to
the internal affairs of numerous countries in the Americas.
The Dominican Republic was occupied at the same time as Haiti
during the first world war.

The Mexican revolution was an ongoing drama at that time, some
interference in that confusing struggle went on, to undetermined
effect.

Johnson invaded the DR in 1964 but was afraid to take on the
Combattant,
Francois Duvalier. The permanent Duvalier revolution was left free to
order its own affairs rather than have the yankees intervene.

The achievements of the Duvalier revolution are in stark contrast to
the
slavish Dominicans, who accepted chastisement from the greenback
dollar.
