#3023: Bellegarde-Smith comments on colonial status

From: P D Bellegarde-Smith <pbs@csd.uwm.edu>

France colonized Ayiti/Bohio/Quisqueya "formally" between 1697 and 1804.
The last French troops left Haiti in December 1803, with General LaPlume,
a black general, at their helm. France thus controlled Haiti, then Hayti,
for 107 years, long enough to do it irreparable harm.
Colonization/colonialism cannot be defended on any account.
