Barbadians warned of outbreak of poliomyelitis
in DR, Haiti

Bridgetown, Barbados, CANA - The Ministry of Health on
Wednesday urged Barbadians travelling to the Dominican
Republic and Haiti to ensure that they are fully
immunized against poliomyelitis. Acting Senior Medical
Officer of Health, Dr Joy St John said this was as a
result of an outbreak of the virus in those two
countries, which puts travelers not adequately immunized
at risk of acquiring polio. "She said that at least a
three-dose primary vaccination series, spaced three
weeks apart, was recommended for travelers to these
countries," the Government Information Service (GIS)
said in a release.
