a1083L Re: Cheerleading for Otto Reich (fwd)

From: Paul Miller <psmiller@twincities.infi.net>

Phew, thank goodness for the good news from Stanley Lucas (and Ms O¹Connor).

President Bush, in his awesome vision, has installed Otto Reich, albeit
somewhat underhandedly, as the new assistant secretary of state for the
Western Hemisphere. Mr. Reich also has great vision, as relayed by Stan.
That vision includes emphasizing, ta dom.....Free Markets. Yes! Finally an
American vision for Haiti. I believe there may be some very qualified
Argentinean free marketers that would be available to help set policy.
Also, I¹m hoping Mr. Reich would explore establishing trade in things such
as energy shares. Perhaps Ken Lay and Jeff Skilling are available
(certainly they believe in free markets). Mr. Skilling emphasized trading
commodities without being encumbered by hard assets. How perfect is that
for Haiti? I sense harmonic ³convergence².

America¹s vision for Haiti has traditionally been undermined by the lack of
shared vision from the Haitian people. Mr. Lucas, Ms O¹Connor, Mr. Reich,
after 200 hundred years of confusion I sense the Haitian people are finally
ready to get on board. Think of the hard work we have put into Haiti:

Refusal to recognize the second independent nation in the western Hemisphere
for some 60 years.

Providing an occupation army for 19 years with very little thanks from the
occupied.

Supporting repressive governments through thick and thin, regardless of how
they treated their people.

I¹m sure the Haitian people are tingling with anticipation.
