"VOYAGE: Recent Works by Hëza"
Broward County Main Library
March 10 - March 30, 2002

In celebration of March as Women's History Month, the Broward County Board of County Commissioners Libraries Division and Emile Viard/Vie & Art Collections will present the exhibition "Voyage: Recent Works by Hëza-Hernsza Barjon."

An opening reception for the exhibit will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2002 from 4:00-7:00pm, at the Broward County Main Library, located at 100S Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale.

This exhibit showcases paintings by Haitian woman artist Hëza (Hernsza Barjon) who recently moved to Florida because of increasing security problems
in Haiti. Eza decided to move to South Florida with her husband and two children after her husband was victimized twice in the past year.

Her paintings depict the deep violence she carries within herself. This Haitian-born painter blends tropical expressionism with post-modern and
primitive styles in her work.

A self-taught artist who started with patchworks, painting on decorative fabrics and craft, Eza has exhibited at the Festival art gallery, Galerie Caraibes, Galerie Marassa, and Cercle Bellevue in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and at the Florida Museum of Lain and Hispanic Art and in private expositions in Miami.

Emile Viard/Vie & Art Collections and the Broward County Library Foundation as part of the American Heritage Series sponsor this free exhibit and reception.

For more information, call Vie & Art Collections at (305) 652-3144 or the library at (954) 357-7464.
