a1404: Re: a1398: Poll (Saint-Vil joins the NO group) (fwd)

From: Jean Saint-Vil <jafrikayiti@hotmail.com>

Dear Father Graves,

Rest assured that many others would have answered 'No' to the poll (is there a
possibility of compromise between Lavalas and the Convergence). However, I for
one find such polls utterly useless. Because 1) the real question is whether
President Aristide and the U.S. administration and its neo-colonial allies
(which is his real opposition) will reach a compromise 2) No poll is needed to
know how the majority of Haitians feel (if that mattered!).

As Eugenia Charles pointed out the other day, it is odd that the Haitian
people, as politicised as we know her to be, has not risen up to depose a
government that is being accused of stealing its votes for over two years now.
Remember, this government has no army at its disposal, the Haitian press is
criticizing it day in -day out, the foreign ambassadors are undermining its
actions relentlessly, and the white power media has given it no break...so what
is this poll for?

Did polls determine the Florida debacle?

Indeed NORMAL Haitians would prefer a normal end to this horrendous crime
against the Haitian people. The elected government should simply declare all
negotiations closed, thank the OAS for its efforts, and get on with the
business of serving the Haitian people.

As for the U.S. government, all the help we need from it is to stop financing
Guy Philippe and other CIA-backed coup plotters (as alledged by the Washington
Post, earlier this month).
