join his government
BBC Monitoring Service - United Kingdom; Mar 22, 2002

Text of report by Haitian Metropole radio on 21 March

Prime Minister Yvon Neptune says that there is still room
for the opposition within his government. He makes clear
that some members of his government are willing to step
down in order to make room for members of the opposition.
He also affirms that the government is willing to resume
dialogue with the opposition so that the country may
finally get out of the impasse. Neptune spoke as follows:

[Neptune - recording, in Creole] We shall continue to
invite them. We shall continue to invite them to come and
work at any level and in any way they think might be useful
in order to continue the dialogue. As for us, we shall make
the decision to create conditions for all of them to
participate in the dialogue. Dialogue will not be possible
without them. The head of state said it before and I said
so too when I was in parliament.

The government's doors are not closed. The president
clearly said that there are government ministers who are
willing to resign to make room for members of the
opposition, in the same way that seven senators resigned to
facilitate the negotiations.
