A solution from a native Haitian

What is going on with the Haitian negotiation? The
Lavalas camp is making a phenomenal mistake for
refusing to find a political compromise. The
Convergence is not in the hurry, to the contrary they
have more to gain in prolonging this eternal crisis.
If anyone believes the Convergence is ready to go to
the poll to face any Lavalas in any open election, you
may have ?l?esprit en Espagne?. The Convergence is
banking on the outcome of the Dominique investigation
to score some points and they will; now they have OAS
on their side that institution is going to ask the
government to pay some reparation to the Convergence,
which ipso facto makes them responsible for the
burning.
After the reparation what would be the recommendation
well putting fire on people house and office are
considered terrorist act and if the government is
responsible appropriate action will be taken.
remember the Convergence is not born out of protest,
it does not have any structure but a bunch of folks
who are driving with personal interest that IRI had
put together. This is the reason why this group had
never sought support within the Haitian people, but it
is a legitimate group and the international community
recognizes it.
The lavalas had banked on the low popularity of the
Convergence and had ignored that group at the
beginning but the lavalas camp had made a colossal
mistake for not taking that group seriously since day
one. While the popularity of that group has not
increased but many are distancing themselves from the
Lavalas camp and today the popularity of the lavalas
camp had decreased considerably to 55% which put them
in a situation to lose any contested election by any
new comer.
The next presidential election is three years from now
if this crisis is not resolved the people will cast a
protest vote and this will put a new comer to the
presidency. Any serious candidate in order to have a
chance to get elected, you should distance yourself
from the lavalas and the Convergence, two years ago,
it could have been a political suicide to distance
from the party in power, today Lavalas does not have
the total control of the electorate. The next Haitian
election in order to defeat the Lavalas people have to
get out and vote, the same phenomenon that had elected
Mr. Aristide in 1990, something similar to it is
necessary to defeat the lavalas camp; otherwise the
country is likely to have another lavalas.
How can we define Lavalas? the word speaks for itself.

I congratulate both the Lavalas and the Convergence
for doing a superb job. these two protagonists had
managed to prevent any financial assistance from
reaching the country. Each is accusing the other and
this has been going on for the past two years. Last
week, after devastation in the Southern part of Haiti,
a fellow for the lavalas camp had accused the
Convergence and the international community for the
suffering of the Haitian people. I thought they were
going to accuse the international community and the US
for that heavy rain as well. It is about time to stop
that blaming game.
A few years ago, the Lavalas was blaming the Duvalier
now after 12 years in power it is impossible to blame
the Duvalier Family but they don?t have the courage to
blame themselves.
These folks do not understand the meaning of
negotiation, if either side is not willing to give
some and using the win-win approach, there is no
reason to negotiate.
Mr. Aristide should play a active role and I believe
the negotiation should start with him since he has he
last word and the Convergence shall select one person
who should have the power to make a decision.
A face to face meeting live on TV that should be
broadcasted everywhere; they should take the 8 points
that Mr. Aristide had agreed upon with the former US
president.
1) Set date to organize the election ( Make special
arrangement for the CEP president Lawyer Manus to
return since he did not resign from his post, he fled
the country since his life was in jeopardy)
2) Redo the congressional election
3) the new congress shall vote by a 2/3 majority to
uphold the November election; in there is disagreement
a new CEP must be formed to organize the Presidential
election.
4) Creation of a new Police force, this current force
is politicize
5) if it is necessary to hold a presidential election;
a presidential commission of 9 members must be
created; each department via a referendum should send
a member that member must complete have at least an
high school diploma and not involve in politic. None
of the political party shall be represented.
6) creation of a professional armed force according
the Haitian constitution there must be an army to
protect the land of Toussaint Louverture.
7) OAS must provide adequate military support to
assist the new Haitian army.
8) general amnesty to all crime committed since
independence up to today; however, in order to take
advantage of it, one must confess his/her crime in
front of a reconciliation commission. All members of
that commission must be 70 and up. all findings of
that commission must remain sealed for 50 more years.
Let the next NEXT generation deals with it.

NB: it is time to reset the clock; vengeance will
bring more vengeances. At some points we have to stop.
The time is now.
