New animal for me

By Bob Corbett

Folks,

I went back to Monteverde Forest Reserve for the last time today, at least to the Monteverde section. Tomorrow I will go back for my last walk in the St. Elena section and then on Friday I知 returning to Quepos. I知 just too cold and need some warmth. In about 5-6 days I値l be complaining in Quepos that I知 too hot!!!

I took two shorter trails today, but in sum it was 5 miles, so I知 happy with that. About mid-point in the second walk I surprised an animal on the trail and had no idea what it was. It first just spooked and started me, then started running like crazy, but straight down the trail, away from me, thus I could watch it. Then it ducked into the forest.

When I got back to the building and some of the guides were around I asked what it was and as soon as I described it like a small black pig, they all knew what it was. I believe it is called a peccary, something like that they were saying and they showed me a photo of one in their own guide book, but it didn稚 have the name printed out. Hmmmm, let me see if that name comes up on the web.

There it is. Called a collared peccary.

It was really cute. Ran like the blazes, fast an can be.

But, otherwise, just good things going on. However, other folks are waiting to use the computer so I値l report more later on.

Bob
